10 Years as CEO, President and Board Director
Community Bank of Central Texas: Smithville, TX
Initially, my role was a consultant and temporary CEO of this troubled state savings bank. A significant part of that role was scheduling and holding interviews for the then-vacant CEO position. As time passed, the Directors and I grew more comfortable with each other and I was offered the role of CEO, President and Board Director.
These responsibilities included:
• Managing all aspects of the balance sheet and income statement.
• Drafting and managing compliance with all operating policies including those
addressing Asset/Liability, Audit, BSA, Compliance, Conflict of Interest, Investment,
Loan, and Personnel.
• Installing and training for Fannie Mae’s Desk Top Underwriter expanding the bank’s
ability to close, sell and service a residential loan portfolio.
• Serving as primary loan officer - Loan types included commercial real estate,
commercial and residential construction, and consumer.
• Supervised closing of all real estate loans.
• Serving as primary marketing and business development officer - trade area covered 6
counties in central Texas.
• Managing all loan committee meetings including preparation of all agendas, loan
presentations and loan committee minutes.
• Managing all Board of Director meetings including preparation of all agendas,
Board presentations and Board meeting minutes.
• Interviewing, hiring and training additional staff.
• Installing automobile lending as a distinct, separate line of business.
• Installing an in-office desk of an advisory service selling stocks and bonds.
• Supervising the loan accounting, deposit accounting, balance sheet accounting
and income statement accounting data processing service with The BISYS Group, Inc.
• Hired and continued to use an expert consultant to assist with budgeting, forward
planning and P&L/Balance Sheet impact of activities such as opening another bank
branch and entering a new line of business.
Windor Savings Association: Austin, TX
Pre-opening responsibilities included:
• Interviewing and hiring staff of six including a CFO and head teller.
• Drafting and managing compliance with all bank operating policies including those
addressing Asset/Liability, Audit, BSA, Compliance, Conflict of Interest, Investment,
Loan, and Personnel.
• Supervising build out of main office.
Post-opening responsibilities included:
• Managing all aspects of the balance sheet and income statement.
• Managing all relationships with state and federal banking regulators.
• Serving as the primary loan officer. Loan types included commercial real estate,
construction, and consumer.
• Managing all loan committee meetings including preparation of all agendas,
loan presentations and loan committee minutes.
• Managing all Board of Director meetings including preparation of all agendas
Board presentations and Board meeting minutes.

Washington Mutual Bank: Phoenix, AZ - Vice President of Home Builder Finance
• 16 to 20 clients and a $100 million portfolio of residential acquisition and development
and construction credit facilities with homebuilders and developers in aZ, NM and NV.
• Soliciting new and existing clients.
• Negotiating all ADC proposals.
• Underwriting all credit committee presentations.
• Preparing credit committee presentations.
• Presenting to credit.
• Documenting and closing of credit facilities as approved by credit committee.
• Servicing these ADC credit facilities including construction inspections and construction
progress draws.
Franklin Federal Bancorp: Austin, TX
Franklin Federal came into being as a result of the Southwest Plan. Franklin Federal was the merger of three formerly insolvent thrifts and recapitalization by ClubCorp headquartered in Dallas, TX. As a Supervisory Agent for the Texas Savings and Loan Department I had served as receiver-manager of the three previously insolvent thrifts.
As Executive Vice President, I was initially hired to manage the Covered Asset portion of the FSLIC Assistance Agreement encompassing more than 2000 assets and 10+ asset managers. My responsibilities included:
• Developing and managing a Budget and Disposition Plan for each asset.
• Managing the accounting and reporting for each asset using Timberline.
Subsequently I was asked to manage the entire retail lending function for Franklin Federal. My responsibilities included:
• Developing, implementing and managing an area-wide marketing plan.
• Supervising preparation of all loan committee presentations.
• Supervising the closing and funding of all loans.
• In one year we closed more than $50 million in single family residential resulting in
a #1 ranking in the trade area.
Texas American Bank: Midland, TX - Vice President of Real Estate Lending
• Serving as primary real estate loan officer - loan types included construction, permanent
lending for commercial and residential real estate.
• Serving as primary real estate loan marketing and business development office.
• Managing presentation of all real estate loans to credit committee meetings.
• Developing new underwriting approach to home builders being used by the bank’s
customers as the primary contractors to build homes.
Security Federal Savings: Albuquerque, NM - Sr. Vice President of Lending
• Acting as the primary real estate loan officer.
• Loan types included residential construction and permanent.
• Land acquisition and development.
• Using the S&L Service Corporation to effect part-ownership of a vertically integrated
land acquisition and development project.
I was hired out of the University of New Mexico as a management trainee and began as a teller and loan collector. At the end of my tenure I served as Sr. Vice President.
